Turn in found poem (6 Malowmoney if not late b/c of excused absence)
Work on quote art for assigned chapter. The quote are assignment sheet is available under assignments/TKAM and students had the entire class period to pick a quote that was evidence for a plot event from their assigned chapter. They then illustrated the quote and wrote some analysis of the quote on the back of the sheet. Stamped reading strategies for ch 12-13 TKAM while they worked. The reading strategies sheet can also be downloaded from assignments/TKAM. HW: Finish quote art and bring supplies, quotes, information and notes to work on map activity in groups tomorrow. We will be working the entire period on the 3D maps tomorrow. The 3D map assignment sheet can be downloaded from assignments/TKAM. See below for examples of 3D maps. Add ch 12 events (at least 2) to the plot line for a total of 13 events. Work on prepping notebook to turn in. Grade slip with list of required items were handed out in class and are available under assignments/TKAM Get started on weekend HW or get caught up on reading. We turned in weekly nb for check #8 at the end of class. Late found poems can be emailed to me this weekend or turned in Monday for 6 Malowmoney. My email is [email protected] If I receive it by today there is no penalty. It's 2 Malowmoney Saturday and 4 on Sunday. Make sure to choose an outside reading book if you haven't already. HW: Read Ch 13-14 and complete reading strategies handed out in class. HW: 8-10 word and phrases from TKAM related to chosen character to use in the found poem Thursday May 8 Warm-up: Ch 10 study questions in this week's packet. After the warm-up, we discussed the study questions and then moved on to creating a plot line of chapters 1-11. The image below is the notes we took on the board. Students were to write down the notes and then add 11 plot events, one from each chapter, for the rising action. HW: finish found poem (type and add image) and read ch 12; notebooks are due tomorrow; grading slip with list of items can be downloaded from assignments/TKAM
Monday May 5
Warm-up: Journal 3 (packet for this week including daily calendar can be downloaded from assignments, TKAM) After the journal, we discussed the topic of courage as it relates to the novel, TKAM, and then spent most of the remainder of the period updating our character charts. The model for the character chart can be downloaded from assignments/TKAM and students should have started one in their NB a couple of weeks ago. They can start now if needed and write it in their comp book or download and fill it in in Word. HW: Read Ch 10 of TKAM and complete Ch 9 study questions. Tuesday May 6 Warm-up: Spelling Lesson 6 Additional Activities After the warm-up, we analyzed and discussed the poem in this week's packet, "If We Are To Die" and discussed its tone and mood and also how it's theme relates to our novel, TKAM. After the poem, we began finding quotes in the novel in preparation for completing the found poem assignment in this week's packet. Students should have picked a character to write about and started to find the 8-10 phrases about that character they will use to construct the found poem. The assignment sheet for the poem is in this week's packet. The grade sheet for the poem can also be found under assignments/TKAM. The final poem will be due Thursday. HW: find 8-10 phrases (or more) about your chosen character to use in the found poem; read through ch 10 of TKAM if you haven't already; find an outside reading book if you haven't already. Warm-up: Read article on Sterling and complete the reading strategies listed below AND answer the discussion questions at the top of the article. (stamped 2c dialect translation and ch 6-8 study questions that were HW)
Reading Strategies (write in comp book): 3 questions 3 new words 1 prediction discussion questions at top of article After the reading strategies, we discussed the article and the current event as it relates to To Kill a Mockingbird. After the discussion, we reviewed study questions and I answered questions students had about those. At the end of class, I introduced the 3D map group activity (see assignments/TKAM for complete instructions) and students were given time to start forming groups and brainstorming ideas for the project. HW: Read Ch 9, add map details to your list so you have a total of 20 (details and page numbers from the book that describe parts of the setting to be used to build the map) NB due tomorrow; quiz tomorrow; see below for list of items due in the notebook.
